Adalynn walked into the foyer of her lavish, over sized family home. She hadn't been back in a few years as she looked around to see some of the pictures on the wall had changed, as well as a whole new decor of what she had considered the family room of the home for some many years. As she looked around at all the changes she could still feel that everything was also still very much the same. Down the stairs of a spiral staircase, her father rushed down to greet her with open arms. They embraced in a long hug as she fought back the tears of joy of finally getting a chance to actually see her father for the first time in a while.
"Adalynn! Who let you in? Does your mother know that you are here?"
He asked cautiously, knowing that the answer could hinge on the whole visit in itself.
"Daddy, you know Phillip, the guard, was not going to make me wait outside. He has worked for you since before I was born. But as for mom, I have no clue if she knows I am here. I assume she is somewhere close to the wine cellar?"
Her father backs up and shakes his head for a moment.
"Is this about money? Did I not send the check for your car or the apartment? Just leave the message with my secretary. You know showing up here like this puts all of that in jeopardy if she finds out I am helping you at all."
She shakes her head in disgust now more frustrated with the whole scenario than she was before. Her eyes welled up with tears for a moment before she reached up with her sleeve and wiped them dry.
"This isn't about anymore money dad! This is about me coming here to tell you that this week, I have some of the biggest matches in my career and I was hoping that maybe I could get you to come to at least one of them."
He reaches up and rubs his temples before looking back at her.
"You know that just cannot happen, Adalynn. The problems that you and your career have caused around this house and this family are just to great. You had every single opportunity in life that many out there would kill for. But you, you Adalynn, you decided to throw it all away for something as silly as becoming a wrestler."
Grinding her teeth, she balled up both of her fist's at her side as she clearly now spoke louder than before, hoping to garner as much attention as she absolutely could in the quiet house.
"Seriously, still to this day, almost four years later and that is all you think of anything I have done, or made of myself? "As silly as being a wrestler." No, I wasn't the debutante that your wife wanted me to be. No, I didn't stay in those damn pageants any longer than I fucking had to. No, I didn't see my way into the wonderful world of a pampered life. Now ask me if I regret even an ounce of those decision? Ask me if I had the chance to go back if I would change any of, any of that? The damn answer is "NO!" emphatically and as loud and clear as you can hear me."
Suddenly a side door opens into the foyer and in walks Adalynn's mother, wine glass in tow and slurring her words a bit.
"Oh, look, the prodigal daughter has made her triumphant return." She smirks looking at her daughter standing there fighting back tears. "Seriously, why is this little bitch in my house? She doesn't need any help from her family. You know, out there chasing the other end of that little rainbow, like the little bottom feeder that she is."
Adalynn opens her mouth to speak but is cut off by her father.
"That is enough, right there, enough!" He blurts out before even realizing what he is saying. "That is still our daughter, and this is still MY DAMN HOUSE!"
Adalynn again wipes her tears as her mother glares at her father for a moment before speaking.
"Again, I ask then, what is she doing here? Money, I would imagine." She chuckles at Adalynn. "Oh that's right she doesn't need that does she? She still get's her stipend every month, doesn't she?"
Her father's face is almost pale as he knows the secret is out.
"You have it in your mind somewhere that you can get something by me in this house that you just so clearly announced as yours, but the fact of the matter is, NOTHING happens in this house without my knowledge. I know exactly where ALL the money goes. I just did not say anything because I know you still have a weak spot for this little bitch."
"IT ISN'T ABOUT MONEY AT ALL, YOU FUCKING WHORE!"
Adalynn lunges at her mother but is quickly stopped by her father stepping in between them.
"I know for a fact you are not going to allow her to come at me like that! She just attempted to strike me! The stipend is gone! She is GONE! I want her out right this second!"
At this point, Phillip, the guard, had made his way back into the foyer hearing the commotion. He and Adalynn's father begin to walk her towards the door as her mother exits through the same door she entered from.
"Make sure she get's to her car, Phillip."
"Dad, please come to one of my matches! All I am asking is one! See what I have become!"
Her father releases her arm to Phillip as he turns without saying a single word, walking back into the house closing the huge wooden door behind him. Phillip releases Adalynn's other arm as they both walk towards the huge iron gate leading to the outside of the Duncan property.
"Just another disappointment. I should have never even came today."
"I am sorry Ada" He sighed. "If it helps any, myself and the rest of the staff have not missed a single match at all."
She stops in her tracks turning towards him and embracing him in a hug before kissing him on the cheek.
"You guys were always more of my family anyway. Tell everyone. "I love them."
The gates automatically opens in front of her as she walks out onto the road, turning back just one more time to look at the home she grew up in, that was nothing like home anymore at all.
