"Come on Conner! You are acting like some jealous fool! Is it really so bad that I stopped you from doing something that you would regret?"
While that is the truth, eventually CJ would regret clocking Matt over the head with the steel chair. Right now though? CJ was having nothing of that “excuse” right now.
"That's why you did it? That's the story you're going with?"
"What!? What other story might there be?"
"Are you sure you are not falling for him like he wants?"
Celeste just blinks a bit not believing what she just heard from her boyfriend.
"I can't believe you just said that!"
"If the shoe fits..
CJ pauses for a moment and picks up his bag and slings it over his shoulder before he speaks up once again before she could.
”Have fun with your new boy"
"What do you mean by that!?"
"Don't wait up... I won't be home."
”CONNER!”
Her yell for her boyfriend to stop falls on deaf ears as CJ storms on out of the locker room, slamming the door behind him.
--------------------
In that locker room Monday night was the last time that CJ and Celeste have seen one another...
--------------------
"Dude are you ever going to get up and join the living!?"
Mike, CJ's best friend of ten years shakes him awake where he crashed out on his couch. Boston is where he ended up as he needed to get away from everything. This house was the place where CJ lived in after he left home after High School, not being able to be in that toxic environment anymore.
CJ groans a bit as he tries to open his eyes but the sunlight pouring into the room is blinding, especially to a young man who had a little too much fun at the party thrown last night.
"Celeste? Why are you waking me up? Just come back to bed with me.."
He spoke in a groggy tone before cuddling back up under the covers.
"I do not believe there is enough alcohol in the state of Massachusetts for that to happen!"
"Huh?"
"Get up! There are some motrins and water on the table in front of you, take em and let them work, before you know it you will be ready for the Bruins game later..Can't wait to see how Nash works out for us."
Friday night... Some of the gang got back together to hang out, and as you would expect with a few of them of age, there was plenty of alcohol to drown his feelings.
"I don't miss this feeling.."
CJ spoke as he sat up on the couch reaching for the motrin as his friend shakes his head a bit and chuckles.
"Miami has softened you up Cross, you used to be able to handle your alcohol at these parties."
He would never drink everyday and end up like his father who seems to barely have spent a sober moment of Conner’s young life... but when these parties come along every so often, even though underage, he lets loose. This time, he had a reason to.
"Don't you worry, I can hang, I will show you."
Mike shakes his head a bit at his comment before he notices CJ staring down at his phone.
"I should probably alert you not to check out your Twitter feed. I knew I should have taken your phone from you.."
”Yeah? Well I will check it later, can not be much worse than what things are now.”
”Dude Cross, why don’t you just call or text her!?”
"What makes you think I miss her?"
"Do I need to remind you that you asked me back into bed with you a few moments ago? I think you're missing her more than you are letting on.”
CJ takes a deep breath knowing that he would love nothing more than to reach out to her, but instead his stubbornness kicks in.
"No, she wants to be buddy buddy with that bastard, let her!"
CJ stands up, and once he gets his feet under him, he heads off into the kitchen knowing he needs to make a pot of coffee to try and curb the headache he has. He also hoped that this conversation would end there, but he knew better.
"I never knew you to be this stupid Conner."
"Excuse me?"
"One little bump in the road and you are going to throw everything away?"
"Feels like much more than just a little bump."
How could they let themselves get tangled up in all of this? They have almost made it a whole year without any huge incidents, maybe they were due?
"I seem to remember last summer you sitting in the living room worrying about how she would react about the ring you got her. You thought she might think you are moving too fast. You were worried that you were going to lose her. Now fast forward six months, you let one guy try and ruin everything for you?
Logic, it is not what Conner wanted to hear right now. All of this is still fresh in his mind and it is next to impossible for him to find the good in it all.
"It's just a piece of jewelry.."
"Dude, you just reached a whole new level of stupid. You are allowing this fool play you. You are doing exactly what he wants! If you do not pull your head out of your ass before it is too late, then you are going to lose her Cross. It may not be today and it might not be tomorrow, but if that does happen... you are never going to be able to forgive yourself!"
Once the single serve coffee maker says ready to brew, CJ places the mug in place and hits the button while trying not to listen to the true words that his best friend is saying and turns his back to his friend giving him the clue that he is done listening.
"Fine, I will stop for now, but we will talk about this later once your head stops feeling like it is going to pound off."
Mike goes to head off, but he come to a stops in the doorway of the kitchen and turns back to CJ.
"You know that you are welcomed to stay as long as you need Conner... With that being said, I hope you are not here for long."
While he would love to be roommates again with CJ, he knew that Celeste was the best thing that ever happened to him and somehow he needed to make sure that CJ and her get back on the right track.
